I paint a lot, every day. The act is a spontaneous expression of my many simultaneous thoughts.
Drawing is probably the first, most immediate visual art form in most people’s experience. The simplicity of line may often be ignored in painting, but I emphasize the use of it. With a variety of technical approaches, I add pigment to the canvas or remove it in layers of lines. The many layers of lines builds up texture and enhances visual interest.
My response to each layering of colors is to see or notice shapes within them, prompting another buildup layer, causing clearer images to appear or, as is sometimes the case, certain images to disappear. Lines end up defining contour, texture, architecture and color in my paintings. The use of drawing coexists with the painting and is integrated into the composition.
My paintings are completed over many sessions, evolving just like my thoughts and reactions to life. In fact the paintings are a personal visual diary.
